King County continues levee work along Green River

Maintenance along levees from Tukwila to Kent means intermittent closures to sections of Green River Trail.

Maintenance work by King County continues along a dozen miles of levees that protect the cities of Renton, Tukwila and Kent from Green River flooding. This work requires temporary, intermittent closures of sections of the Green River Trail, which sits atop the levee system through the Green River Valley.

Upcoming closures:

  • 24-27, possibly extending to Aug. 28: The Green River Trail in Kent from the trailhead at 8721 South 259th Street to near Central Place, with a possible extension to Central Avenue will be closed for construction daily between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Asphalt will be removed in some areas, and anyone who accesses this portion of the trail outside of construction hours is advised to use caution.
  • The trail segment between State Route 181 and the trail bridge south of South 180th Street is closed by the City of Kent and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for levee reconstruction.

As work moves forward, the location of current and upcoming closures will be posted at www.kingcounty.gov/rivers. Trail users are encouraged to sign up for weekly updates or follow #GreenRiverTrail @KCDNRP on Twitter and “like” the King County Rivers Facebook page for current and upcoming closure schedule.
