One down, 199,999 to go. King County Executive Dow Constantine pulled the first railroad spike from the county’s portion of the Eastside Rail Corridor, signaling the start of the next phase to turn the outdated rail line into a regional trail, utility and transportation corridor stretching from Woodinville to Renton. This year, King County will do all the planning, design and permitting, and in early 2017 the rails will start coming out. First up: a 1.3 mile section from Kirkland south into Bellevue, which will link existing and planned trails at either end.
