Celebrating 20 Years of Community Partnerships

Across King County, community partners have enhanced the recreational opportunities in our region with projects ranging from playgrounds to interpretive signs, ball fields to trails, and even unusual activities like paragliding and drone racing! These collaborations are made possible by King County Parks’ Community Partnerships and Grants (CPG) program.

Since 2003, CPG has collaborated with 80+ community partners to sustain, improve, and expand public recreation opportunities on properties owned by King County. The projects accomplished by these community partners are vast and invaluable. Read on for a few examples!

Partner-Powered Parks, Trails, and Recreation

Since the first CPG partnership began with the Mirrormont Community Association, almost 20 years of park improvements and continuous care of the park have been made possible by community members spreading chips on trails, trimming overgrowth from paths, replacing invasive weeds with native plants, and adding park amenities like benches.

Members of the Washington Trails Association, a long-time CPG partner, have contributed more than 65,000 volunteer hours to building and maintaining back country trails that serve hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians!

Eastside Audubon Society partners with King County Parks to enhance spaces for birds and birdwatchers through the Bird Watching Trail at Marymoor Park. The conservation area is an important refuge for more than 200 local and migratory bird species. This refuge has only increased in importance as the surrounding area continues to get built out, reducing green space and bird habitat. The park provides a place for them to nest, find food, and raise young.

A Legacy to Be Grateful For

Parks is grateful to the many community groups, nonprofits, and volunteers who have committed their time, energy, and resources to the enhancement of public recreation in King County. The relationships forged over the past 20 years have created a legacy of public recreation gems for many future generations to enjoy. We can’t wait to see what the future of CPG partnerships has in store!

Thank you, CPG Partners!
