King County Lifeguards Honored for Lifesaving Efforts

At a recent swim competition at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center, an unexpected incident put the skills and training of Aquatic Center staff to the test. A young swimmer participating in a race suddenly stopped midway, prompting immediate action from the on-duty lifeguards. With calm and efficient teamwork, they were able to rescue the swimmer from the water and provide CPR until EMTs arrived. The swimmer became conscious while being transported to a nearby hospital and was discharged the next day.

The King County Aquatic Center staff involved with the emergency procedures were recently recognized by the King County Council for their lifesaving action, with Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer presenting at a ceremony held at the Aquatic Center.

This incident highlights the preparedness, teamwork, and quick-thinking abilities of the world-class staff working at this world-class facility. Thank you to all the staff (including Mike Dunwiddie, Brian Mazzuca, Ivy Luong, Caitlin Mazzuca, Jordan Covington, Xalli Bell, Jay Deng, Grace Ralstin, Polly Leone, Gregorio Quevedo, Kyle Wicklund, and David Hersey) and first responders who played a part in saving a life!
