We heard about this cool contest from our friends at CLIF Kid and we just had to share because it’s such a smart idea for helping kids return to outdoor play. The 3rd Annual Backyard Game of the Year is a nationwide contest that invites kids ages 6-12 to create original backyard game ideas for a chance to win big prizes and the ultimate bragging rights in your neighborhood!

Call a family meeting and combine the forces of your collective brain power in a free-form pondering session, then put your game ideas to the test in your own backyard or nearby King County Park (the super fun part!). Submit your best idea before the June 17, 2013 deadline and whether or not you win an actual prize, you’ll still end up with a new, original game to play and that’s really all the motivation you need! Together with CLIF Kid, we can help reconnect kids with imaginative, outdoor play for their physical and mental health.

Individuals could win a $10,000 scholarship and groups could win a $15,000 donation to the non-profit of their choice! Plus, select finalists will get to showcase their games at the 2013 CLIF Kid Backyard Game of the Year Playoffs on July 27 in San Diego!
