The fall season is the perfect time to explore ‘your big backyard’ as a family and keep your kid hiker’s motivation ever-growing for a life-long love of the outdoors, rain or shine. After such a dry (and lately humid) summer, we are finally starting to see a little bit of rain, but that doesn’t mean we all need to rush back indoors and double our screen time. “No way!,” says kid hiker.
All you need is a proper rain jacket and footwear to head out the door for a fun adventure that could easily be rewarded with a hot cup of cocoa while the outerwear hangs to dry. Of course, kid hiker will ask for the tiny marshmallows to be sprinkled on top while rattling off all the great discoveries of the day.

My kids love to hike in the fall. They love the changing leaves, the fresh air, mushrooms, spiders, and occasional frost on the land. We are looking forward to one more backpacking trip before it gets too cold.
