Looking for a mini weekend getaway? Hop on a ferry and spend the day exploring Vashon-Maury Island in the “Heart of the Sound”. With 45 miles of shoreline, Vashon is a gem of the PNW. Visitors should check out the newly renovated Maury Island Marine Park. Thanks to a a $2.1 million effort funded by the state, the former mining site has been transformed into a beautiful King County Park, crisscrossed with family-friendly trails. Visitors can take in the views of Mt. Rainier, the East Passage and the Cascade Mountains and can even spot animal friends such as blue herons, bald eagles, Chinook salmon and ORCAS?!!!! Need I say more? Actually… I do. After hikin’ around, visitors should check out the new picnic shelter which adds the cherry-on-top of an already spectacular park. Check out the view from the picture above ^^^.
