CHOMP!, King County’s celebration of local food and sustainability returns, Aug. 20

CHOMP!, King County’s celebration of local farming, food and sustainability, is set for 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20 at King County’s Marymoor Park. Now in its second year, this fun, family-friendly event is presented by PCC Natural Markets and hosted by King County Parks.

Kick off the weekend by attending CHOMP!’s Dinner in the Park on Friday, August 19 at 6:00 pm in the Willowmoor Farm area at Marymoor Park. Guests will enjoy a locally sourced five-course dinner prepared by some of King County’s many acclaimed chefs. Proceeds benefit Food Empowerment Education & Sustainability Team (FEEST).

Join King County Parks the next day and celebrate all that is fresh, delicious, local and sustainable at CHOMP!. This FREE all-day event features cooking demonstrations from guest celebrity chefs, hands-on workshops to make you a better backyard farmer and gardener, kids’ activities, a community gardener competition, live entertainment, and so much more. New for 2016 – CHOMP! celebrates King County’s amazing community gardeners and cooks with three fun competitions that let you show your creativity in the garden and in the kitchen.

Wacky Produce – Bring your spectacularly odd King County fruits and vegetables for our panel of local farmers to judge in three categories:
• Largest fruit or vegetable
• Fruit or vegetable that looks most like a human face
• Fruit or vegetable that looks most like an object or animal

Homemade Hot Sauce – Is your hot sauce a three-alarm, four alarm or just plain delicious? CHOMP! judges will choose winners in three categories including:
• Hottest
• Most flavorful
• Overall top-rated by judges

Backyard Chicken Pageant – Take your chicken to the park! Our judges will select a single “Best in King County Backyard Chicken.” All breeds welcome.
• Chickens will be judged on health, plumage and of course, personality
