Peace N the Hood Job Fair a big success!

Our very own “Log Cabin” at Steve Cox Memorial Park was home to the the first Peace N the Hood Job Fair and 4th annual 3:3 basketball tournament this past Wednesday, June 28.

Now in its fourth year, the 3:3 basketball tournament involved some 200 kids ages 12-19, but the job fair was really the highlight, focusing on employment opportunities for people aged 16-24 years old. The event featured more than 25 employers and 15 resource providers, including Starbucks Coffee Company, Taco Time NW, Downtown Seattle Association, King County, White Center Community Development Association, and FareStart, among many more.

More than 150 young adults turned out for the job fair. In many cases, participants could fill out job applications on the spot, and there were help sessions for those who wanted to build their resumés and practice the job application process.

Many thanks to Southwest Youth and Family Services, the organizer of the job fair and tournament. And thanks as well to WorkSource, Seattle Youth Violence Prevention Initiative, 100K Opportunities Initiative, and Community of Opportunity for your support in pulling this event together in such a grand way! We loved seeing the Log Cabin and park a-buzz with so much energy!

Check out more event photos over on Flickr. Best of luck to the applicants and newly employed young adults!
