Spring is in full swing and that means one of our favorite family friendly events is coming up! The Big Backyard 5K presented by Kaiser Permanente is happening on Sunday, June 2 at King County’s Marymoor Park. And this year is a very special year as we are celebrating our 10th annual event, which has raised funds to support the maintenance and operations of our parks and trails in King County since 2010.
We are so excited to celebrate this milestone that we are adding a special 10K distance option to our tenth event! Participants can now choose between running or walking the 5K or running the 10K. And to make things even more special, every participant that crosses the finish line on June 2nd will receive a special commemorative ten year BBY5K finisher medal!

As always, we will have our beautiful chip-timed courses for each distance that will wind through Marymoor Park and its surroundings, our soft and comfy race apparel and collectible referral mugs, and our awards ceremonies and post-race celebration.
Got a kiddo that is age 10 years and under who loves to run? Sign them up in-person on race day for our FREE Kids Dash presented by Parent Map. Participants will follow (or zoom past) King County’s Marta the River Otter to the finish line in this very popular and fun ¼-mile loop!
The BBY5K is a fun event for the whole family that is very dog and stroller friendly. Come hang out before the race and join in a pre-race warm up and don’t forget to check out the great offerings that our amazing event sponsors and vendors will have to provide during our post-race festivities.
Individuals, kids, groups, and teams can still sign-up online through the end of the month (May 30) and in-person on race weekend (June 1-2). Participants will receive a super soft t-shirt, commemorative finisher medal, refreshments, a chance to win prizes, and the satisfaction of supporting one of your favorite regional park agencies…us!
We’d like to give a big shout out and thanks to our 2019 event sponsors – Kaiser Permanente Washington, Harborstone Credit Union, Parent Map, and Super Jock n’ Jill.
