Cougar Mountain Pergola Project Revives Accessible Gathering Space to the Park

Visitors to Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park can now enjoy an upgraded gathering space as King County Parks replaces the park’s aging pergola at one of the park’s popular picnic areas.

Construction is complete on a new timber pergola structure located just steps from the Harvey Manning Trailhead, providing an improved setting to take in the stunning views of Lake Sammamish to the north.

Located within one of King County’s most beloved regional parks, the new pergola will provide a welcoming place for visitors to rest, gather, and enjoy the natural beauty of Cougar Mountain. The project also includes construction of a new accessible pad for an ADA-accessible picnic table, helping create a more inclusive experience for park visitors of all abilities.

Project work includes:

  • Removing and replacing the aging pergola with a new structure designed to serve park visitors for years to come.
  • Adding an accessible picnic table area to better accommodate visitors of all abilities.
  • Improving the overall gathering space to create a more comfortable and welcoming destination within the park.

Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park encompasses more than 3,000 acres of forests, wetlands, wildlife habitat, and trails, making it one of the largest urban wilderness parks in the region. The new pergola will continue to serve as a community gathering space while improving safety, functionality, and accessibility for future generations of visitors.
