Good news! Thanks in large part to a lovely, sunny and dry weekend, the weather conditions were perfect for construction crews to start paving the Issaquah segment of the East Lake Sammamish Trail.
Closed since May 2012, the 2.2-mile-long Issaquah segment, which goes from SE 43rd St south to Gilman Blvd, is the second section of the 11-mile-long trail to be developed. The Redmond segment, which included a 77-vehicle parking lot, opened in November 2011. Additional segments though Sammamish are currently in design and permitting.
If Mother Nature continues to provide us with good weather, we’re hoping to re-open the Issaquah segment in its fully paved, planted, and bollarded glory sometime in mid-to-late May. Which of course means we get plan a party and bust out our really big scissors to celebrate, hurrah!
